I've learned a lot about book promotions since Nimbus published my first book almost 11 years ago, but there are three big things that stand out.
There's a threshold where doing more book events really doesn't make much of a difference in terms of sales.
It's really easy to burn out while trying to promote a book.
Picking events that are genuinely fun makes it all a lot easier.
So, I don't actually do that many events anymore, but the ones I do, I do because they're special.
Yesterday, for example, was a super fun event at Indigo in Dartmouth, where I read Ellis on Guard and co-created a Big Book of Bravery with a bunch of creative kids (stop in at Indigo to check it out)!
If you missed that one, here's what's coming up next for Ellis on Guard:
April 11 from 12:30-3:30: Group Author Signing at Sunnyside Mall in Bedford (where I'll get to catch up with longtime author pals like Carol Bruneau, Lenn Wagg, Janice Landry and others)
April 23 at 12:00: Children's Workshop at the Cork World Book Festival (absolutely can't wait to meet some other authors from Ireland and around the world).
May 9 at 1:00: Storytime at The Happy Duck in Truro (I've been checking out this sweet little bookshop on Instagram for awhile, and the fact that it's run by a former librarian seals the deal!)
May 29 (evening, location TBA): Children's book panel event in Toronto (thrilled that this seems to be working out--stay tuned for details).
These are probably all the events that I'll actively set up for Ellis, but I love attending festivals, visiting libraries, and participating in group events, so if you think I might be a fit for something, please reach out!
